The Protagonimals- Theatre Installation. 2014
The Protagonimals is a walkthrough theatre installation I made that explores the behind the scenes of animal showbusiness, for example the animals we see in cartoons or childrens story books. I wanted to combine reality with fiction, three dimension with two dimension, both in character and a close relationship with set. It looked at the pressure of stereotypes and expectation, and acted as a reflection of human expectations of performers in the media. Set in a corridoor split into sections, the installation ran for 1 hour, and the audience could walk through and back the same way, whilst the animals carried on (improvising) with their lives between work.
Masks, costumes, set, improvisation workshop/ rehearsal, and direction by India Smith.
